Welcome!

I have written a NEW BOOK titled, Food Allergies: A Recipe for Success at SchoolInformation, Recommendations and Inspiration for Families and School Personnel.  The foreword is by Michael C. Young, M.D., author of The Peanut Allergy Answer Book, Second Edition.

Book Overview
Too many children are having allergic reactions and anaphylaxis at school, often as a result of a lack of preparation and understanding.  Each reaction is traumatic for the student who experiences it, for those who witness it, and for school staff who treat the child in the throes of this life threatening event.

This important and comprehensive book presents straightforward information and recommendations for managing food allergies at school.  Specifically covered are:

~ A general overview of food allergies, including treatment and current research.
~ A 3-Step Plan for school food allergy management.
~ The process involved to develop a school district life threatening allergy policy.
~ A thorough explanation of the laws that protect food-allergic students.

~ The emotional impact of food allergies, including recommendations to support healthy coping strategies for the child and family.
~ Practical tools, such as an Individual Healthcare Plan form, and a template for Recommended Standards for School Food Allergy Management.
~ Highlighted exerpts written by parents and professionals offering their insights and experiences with food allergies.

"Food Allergies: A Recipe For Success At School is an excellent resource for families new to food allergies as well as those who have been managing food allergies for many years.  We all want food-allergic kids to be safe at school and fully engaged in their academic and extra-curricular activities.  This book is a great tool to show us how."  ~Mike Tringale, MSM, Senior Vice President, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (www.aafa.org)

Educating For Food Allergies, LLC (EFFA) was created to assist schools and families as they work to successfully manage food allergies at school.

When a child is first diagnosed with a life-threatening food allergy, parents are faced with the challenge of keeping their child safe in ways they had not previously imagined.  Schools look for ways in which to keep these students safe, while also promoting an atmosphere which allows the students to thrive in all aspects of their education.  In both instances, the task of gathering and assimilating information to facilitate the success of this goal is often a difficult and overwhelming task.

The founding premise of EFFA is to facilitate this process by offering one-on-one support and education to school staff and families as they work to understand and overcome the complexities of food allergies and their management.  We believe the dynamic of support, information and guidance, offered by professionals in a direct and personal manner, is vital to the advancement of food allergy management at school.

EFFA provides educational workshops on food allergies and their management for school staff (nurses, teachers, cafeteria, administrators, auxiliary) and parent groups which are designed to meet the specific needs of the attendees.  In addition, EFFA offers assistance in the development of practical accommodations for Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and 504 Plans for students with food allergies.  EFFA lends their expertise to school districts to assist in the writing of district policy.

The customized and personal services EFFA provides are unique within the area of food allergy management.  EFFA has been serving New England and the Greater Boston Area since 2000!
